Prostate Cancer Breakthrough: New Theranostic Approach with RET Biomarker (2026)

They then selected RET-L7 as a binding peptide and evaluated its effectiveness in PET/CT and radioligand therapy. The results were impressive, with 68Ga-DOTA-RET-L7 demonstrating high, specific uptake in RET-positive tumors, strong self-blockade, and rapid blood clearance.

Furthermore, a single dose of 177Lu-DOTA-RET-L7 produced a dose-dependent survival benefit without significant hematologic or organ toxicity. This preclinical work supports the translation of the RET-targeted theranostic approach for PSMA-negative prostate cancer, as RET is a clinically relevant neuroendocrine prostate cancer-selective surface target.

The research is now moving forward with first-in-human imaging as part of an investigator-initiated clinical study. However, broader patient access will require additional safety and dosimetry evaluation, larger clinical validation, and regulatory approvals. This is a promising development, but it is a long road ahead before this approach becomes widely available.
